What is a Tax Notice Response?

Tax and regulatory notices in India come from multiple authorities: the Income Tax department (Section 142(1), 143(2), 148, 263 notices and similar), GST authorities (DRC-01 demands, ASMT show-causes, REG suspension orders, RFD refund notices), and MCA/ROC (STK-1 strike-off notices, scrutiny letters under Section 206). Each has its own statutory response window — typically 15-30 days — and an inadequate or late response can result in adverse orders, penalties, or strike-off. The right response depends on the notice type, the underlying facts, and the procedural posture; the wrong response — or silence — is consistently the most expensive option.

What's included

Scope of work

24-hour notice triage

We classify the notice, identify the statutory provision, the response deadline, and the strongest initial position — within one working day of receipt.

Fixed quote per response

After triage we send a fixed quote covering drafting, filing, and one round of follow-up. No hourly billing surprises.

CA + counsel coordination

Income tax notices are handled by our chartered accountants; complex matters loop in tax counsel. GST and MCA notices are handled in-house with senior CS oversight.

Drafted, filed, tracked

We draft the reply, file it through the appropriate portal (e-Proceedings, GSTN, MCA), and track the matter through to the next regulatory action.

Audit trail for your records

All correspondence, drafts, and acknowledgements are returned to you in a tidy audit-trail folder for future use.

FAQ

Common questions

Why is pricing quote-based?

Notice complexity varies dramatically — a routine 142(1) information request is straightforward; a 263 revisionary order or multi-year scrutiny is far more involved. We triage every notice within 24 hours and come back with a fixed quote so there are no surprises.

What's the typical timeline?

Notices generally allow 15-30 days for response. We aim to file within the deadline window with at least 3 working days of buffer. For very tight deadlines we'll flag this in the triage report.

Do you represent in person at the hearing?

Standard engagement covers written response and follow-up correspondence. In-person hearings (rare for routine notices) are quoted separately if needed.

What if I've ignored the notice for weeks already?

Send it anyway. Many situations are still recoverable — adjournment requests, condonation applications, or revisionary appeals exist for delayed responses. The triage report will be honest about your options.
