Tax Deduction Account Number (TAN)

The 10-character identifier issued to entities that deduct or collect tax at source.

Definition

A Tax Deduction Account Number is a 10-character identifier that every entity deducting or collecting tax at source (TDS / TCS) under the Income Tax Act must hold. It is issued by the Income Tax Department and obtained at incorporation alongside PAN through the SPICe+ flow. Every TDS return and TDS payment must quote the TAN.
