Whether a company has filed a contact email against its MCA record is a rough digital-readiness signal. The rate differs across states and industries — not because of any regulatory rule, but because of the vintage of the filing and the compliance posture of the promoters.
- A listed email counts whether it is a free-provider (Gmail, Yahoo) address or a custom-domain address.
- Custom-domain share is the sharper signal — it is a proxy for 'the company has a web presence and owns it'.
- State-level adoption rates diverge less than you would expect because most variation is time-driven — older filings are older regardless of geography.
Filed emails can be stale. The MCA only enforces an update when a statutory form is submitted — a valid email on record can belong to a founder who has exited.
