This is the base rate for Indian corporate formation. It shows how many entities sit on the MCA register today, how many remain active, and where those companies are clustered by state and industry. Use it as a denominator for any sharper question — share of active entities, state concentration, the drift between yearly registrations and yearly strike-offs.
- Yearly trends are based on the registered incorporationYear — filings with a missing or future-dated incorporation year are excluded from that series.
- Top states are ranked by registered office state at the time of the last filing; a company that has re-registered is counted where it now files.
- The status distribution is a live snapshot — 'Active' means the entity has not been struck off, not that it has recently filed.
Registration count is not the same as economically active companies. A material share of registered entities file zero-revenue annual returns — treat the 'active' number as a regulatory-standing signal, not an operations signal.
