India's register skews young — a consequence of the post-2013 Companies Act formalisation wave and the subsequent decade of digital incorporation. The age distribution tells you how the corporate stock has accumulated, not just how it looks today.
- The 'Under 1 year' cohort is the flow measure; the bands above it are cumulative survivors.
- Drop-off between adjacent bands is the survival rate — a steep fall from '1–3 years' to '3–5 years' usually reflects struck-off non-filers rather than wound-up operations.
- The 50+ band is a useful anchor — those are the pre-liberalisation filings that are still on the register, mostly large holding structures and family-owned groups.
